Why 99% of entrepreneurs fail and how you can be the 1%
Thursday, April 11th, 2024
I was sitting on the coach after 12 hours of work, talking to my wife Becca and trying to unwind.
The kids had got up at 3:30am that morning so I had too. Bottles, diapers and then back to bed with them, but by then, I was already up so I got to work.
I had just got off the last call for the day with one of my mentors Bryan, an industry leader in design and sales funnel optimization.
I was the only one on the call, just him and me, going over cutting-edge best-practices and brainstorming new ways to increase conversions.
My mind started to wander as we were talking...
I was thinking less about CRO and designs, and more about the process of what we were doing.
1-1 coaching, training following proven systems, brainstorming, implementation, feedback, practice, practice, practice, more feedback...
Over and over and over until finally near-perfect, consistent results.
I scribbled a few notes down and ended the call, planning to be more focused next week, same time, same place.
Talking to Becca on the couch about these ideas, I realized... this is how you master anything.
It's exhausting, monotonous and honestly rather boring, but that's the process on how you learn and even master anything in life.
The process is fascinating and you can be over-the-moon passionate about your field, but some stuff (like CRO, analytics and anything with math), is not fun IMO.
We talked about how learning is personal, individual. Everyone understands and applies things differently.
This is the problem with the current school system.
In our efforts to globalize knowledge, we've stripped away individuality, creativity and personalized education, thus reducing the effectiveness of the system entirely.
The more targeted the training, the more relevant and applicable the information. Add an actual mentor that has done what they're training you on, the venue to ask and get real, cutting-edge answers + consistent feedback...
You literally can't fail.
Except 99% of entrepreneurs still do.
Wait what?
How is that even possible?
Despite how tired I was (my brain was mush at this point lol), I started listing out what you needed to succeed at something...
Not a comprehensive list, but a start.
The strange thing about this is that all of us already have all of these things.
So why aren't we more successful?
There are thousands, tens of thousands of mentors, experts, "guru's" out there. Literally google: "expert in [your niche]" and you'll get a list of the worlds greatest minds on the subject.
Same goes for methods. Every mentor has a method and most of the time, all those methods work if you'll put in the work.
As far as resources go, we have more of those at our fingertips than literally any other time in history. We have no excuse there.
Half the practice battle is just showing up. Just getting to the gym even when you're so tired you can't walk. Moving those fingers to type out the next chapter of that book. Staying consistent especially when it's hard and boring. I assume you work everyday? You're showing up?
Feedback: if you picked a half-decent mentor they'll be able to give you targeted feedback in real time. Get on a coaching call with them, join their inner circle, go through their course and report back. Find a way to get real support.
So what's the missing link?
The truth?
You are.
You're the only reason you're not as successful as you want to be.
That's the good and the hard truth.
It's hard cuz you have to accept more responsibility, step to the plate, OWN your current situation and future more. No easy because you probably already feel overwhelmed; am I right?
It's good because you can do something about it.
If you're the missing link then you're also the solution.
If you bridged this gap, if you added yourself into your own business, life, problems as a permanent player: you literally can't fail.
It's not possible.
Look, here's the reality.
Your mentor has already succeeded doing the very thing you're trying to do.
They've developed a proven method that has been battle tested on probably hundreds or even thousands of other students.
You have all the resources in the entire world at your fingertips, and genius-level AI to sort through all those resources and information for you.
You're smart, beautiful, capable, hard working, resourceful... you're totally able to do this! You CAN do this, but WILL you? That's the actual question.
Literally, all your mentors, all their methods, all the resources, all the education and all your feedback would have to be wrong and fail for this to not work for you.
You just need to take everything you have and are and apply it to your one thing.
Stop bouncing around all the time.
Stay focused.
"Perhaps the universe isn't giving you what you want because based on all of your distractions and randomness it's simply unclear what you are asking for." - Brendon Burchard
If you don't show up, do the work and stay consistent, all of the mentors, methods, resources, tools, courses, softwares, and fancy tech will do nothing for you.
So get in, get going and never be the missing link in the problems of your life again.
Talk next week,
Josh
