Russell Brunson: back from the shadows (and why he left!)
Thursday, April 25th, 2024
I watched an interview by Russell Brunson and Ryan Pineda yesterday.
It was Russell's first interview in three years.
In their two hour video, they went DEEP into the current digital marketing landscape, why you need to double down on organic content and the future of business with AI.
I listened to it TWICE and took pages of notes.
I thought it was so good I shared this with my mastermind this morning and had to tell you about it today.
But I had to ask...
Why did Russell disappear for THREE YEARS?
And what made him come back?
Ryan asks him the same question and the reason was very interesting...
Since launching ClickFunnels 2.0, they've had a lot of issues they've had to work through. Russell was very transparent about the bugs, problems they ran into and how they climbed back to leading out in the marketplace.
They also acquired Dan Kennedy's business: Magnetic Marketing which apparently wasn't something he would do again. Buying a business includes acquiring their employees, customers and culture. Sounds very complicated.
But the reason Russell is back at it, doing podcasts and interviews is because of ads.
He explained that ad costs have only gone up and has no sign of slowing down.
They spend over 2 MILLION dollars per month running ads and their cost to acquire a new customer is outrageous.
He says they're going back to the basis of creating high-quality, organic content and doubling down on that, and scaling back on running ads.
BIG DEAL.
There's your next strategic marketing move.
If Russell is spending more time on organic and less time on ads, then we should probably follow the leader.
Going back to the basis is usually how you get ahead.
Most people think that scaling means doing totally different things.
In my experience, growth comes from doing the basis better and more consistently.
Developing mastery in the basis is almost always the key to your next level. Which sounds counterintuitive but that's the reality.
Two other things Russell & Ryan talked about that I thought were very interesting...
1) Information is becoming a commodity and AI is able to create more and more high-quality content. It's got it's own issues but there is more information being created now than ever before and it's only going to go up in quality and volume.
Most people don't want MORE information, they want the RIGHT information to get them a specific result.
Something AI hasn't replaced (yet) is implementation.
Actually doing or helping you actually do the thing you're working on.
Getting the thing DONE, not just teaching you how to do the thing.
AI can help assist you with implementation but bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be, AI isn't the best at simply because YOU'RE the running the machine and you don't know what you don't know.
You can't ask AI to help you with something if you don't even know you need that thing in the first place.
That's where implementation done-with-you or done-for-you services come into place.
The other thing AI will never be able to replace, is experiences.
We need social, immersive, intense experiences. Entrepreneurs especially love intense, meaning experiences.
Masterminds, events, communities and more will never be replaced by something robotic, artificial or fake.
Something to think about in building out your offers and your products.
Information is becoming more and more a commodity.
People want implementation and a proven process to get a result.
And there will always be a demand for experiences.
2) Ryan asks Russell what's the ONE THING that separates the winners from the losers? The people that succeed and people that fail.
Russell's response was immediate and simple: "OBSESSION".
The people that win are those that LOVE what they do, have a specific group of people that they feel called to SERVE and aren't just in it to make money.
It really made me stop and think...
What is MY obsession? Who am I supposed to help?
I spent the rest of the day thinking about that.
I think for the most part your obsession, passion, purpose is something you choose and might not only be something that chooses you.
I've chosen to help entrepreneurs like you make more money, master marketing and enjoy personal freedom.
I love the nitty-gritty tactics, strategies and hacks of building sales funnels that make tons of money.
I love enjoying the freedom of working for myself and being my own boss.
I love helping others do the same because I didn't always have money or freedom.
We grew up with nothing and I know what it's like to have a corporate-america boss telling you how to live your life.
That's what I'm passionate about because I know the crazy, awesome transformation having a successful business can make in your life.
In your life, in your marriage, in your family, in your future, in your finances... literally everything in your life transforms when you figure out your passion.
Take some time today to identify what your obsession, your art, your calling, your crowd is and let me know.
Until next time,
Josh
